Welcome to the Lake County MuseumThe Lake County Historical Society was established in 1952. The museum is presently located on the campus of Dakota State University in Madison, SD. The City of Madison is located between two glacial lakes. Nearby Lake Herman State Park and Walker’s Point State Park provide outdoor activities and year-round pursuits for residents and tourists alike.

We are dedicated to linking the past to the future by collecting, documenting, preserving, securing, researching, exhibiting and interpreting objects of cultural developmental and historical value to the Lake County area from the mid-1800s to the present.
